Clinics & Weather

Clinics are right around the corner so lets talk about what happens if there is bad weather. Clinics will not be held in these conditions

  1. Lightning

  2. Severe Thunderstorms

  3. High winds or Hail

If there is a notice of a severe storm with any of the listed conditions above we will be forced to cancel those evening clinics.

How will I be notified? A notice will be sent to you via sms and/or email. Social media is to be updated, as well as blogged. It is your responsibility to check the weather and assess any safety concerns you have with your exhibitor. We will do our best to announce the cancellation ASAP- since we have people traveling from near and far notification will go out by 5pm the night of practice.

Thunder Storms and Lightning Safety

Having a plan and a safe place to shelter in the event of lightning is an important step in risk management. It is recommended that outdoor events be suspended or moved indoors if a storm is less than six miles away (including mounting and warm-ups).

  • If there is lightning, severe storms, or if the key leader feels that riding in both indoor or outdoor unsafe. We will end clinics immediately, and dismiss all exhibitors.

  • If there is severe weather alerts prior and the forcast shows the weather may continually be bad, practice will be canceled.

  • If there is servere weather that pops up and we need to take shelter, we ask that horses be secured in the stalls and that you seek shelter immediately.

Want to know more on how to determine the distance of a storm in miles?

Use the Flash-to-Bang Method by counting the number of seconds between seeing lightning and hearing thunder and dividing it by Wive (lightingsafety.noaa.gov).
