Hello, and welcome to our 4-h project where you get to gain family members and grow with your project. In this project, you will learn how to care for your horse, learn with friends, grow as a community, and have fun while doing this all in a 4-H atmosphere.

4H Driving Clinic

Saturday, June 4th , 2022 9 am – 1 pm


Hosted by the Columbia County 4H Horse Project


Join CCHP and Clinician Wes Licht to learn about driving. Wes will provide one-on-one instruction to all participants. Starting to drive? Bring your horse and learn long-lining. Already hitched and driving? Bring your horse and cart. New to driving? Come to audit and learn more about this exciting equine discipline. Wes will demonstrate and work with participants on long-lining, hitching safely, pleasure driving and ring competition.

Open to all 4H youth, grades 4-13 Cost: $10 for non-CCHP members Registration deadline: May 25th Columbia County Fairgrounds 1 Fairgrounds Rd. Portage, WI


About Wes Licht:

Wes has been driving ponies and horses since he was six years old. He enjoys passing on his knowledge and experience to drivers of all ages, teaching them how to drive safely and compete in ring classes and obstacle competition. He has helped lead young driver clinics and has demonstrated his driving training techniques to various organizations and to audiences at the Midwest Horse Fair, where in 2019, he and wife Jane were awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Wes continues to enjoy giving carriage and sleigh rides and competing in all sorts of carriage driving sports.

Why is a premise ID important & how this

 information will be used..

Wisconsin Premises Registration Act requires all those who house, or co-mingle livestock (horses) to register their location AKA- premises.

Which animals are considered “livestock”?

* Bovine (bison & cattle) * Farm-raised deer 

* Horses or other equine * Captive game birds

* Poultry * Fish (kept at a fish farm)

* Swine * Llamas, alpacas, or other camelids

* Sheep * Ostriches, emus, or other ratites* Goats
